Armenia Russia Agreement to Raise Level of Strategic Cooperation

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The realization of the agreement will allow to raise the strategic partnership achieved in the relationship between Russia and Armenia up to the level of cooperation with elemen’s of allied relations," Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s spokesman Levon Zourabian said at a briefing Tuesday–commenting on the Armenia-Russia Friendship–Cooperation and Mutual Assistance Agreement signed recently in Moscow.

Zourabian said the legal basis of bilateral cooperation in the military and technical fields had been seriously supplemented thanks to the signed principal document.

The spokesman also highlighted the importance of the fact that during Ter-Petrosyan’s official visit to Moscow Russia’s President Boris Yeltsin voiced willingness to assist in developing the nuclear energy system in Armenia–particularly in constructing a new nuclear power plant.

Ter-Petrosyan decided to hold a news conference to be attended by all mass media representatives in connection with the sixth anniversary of Armenia’s independence–spokesman Levon Zourabian said at a briefing Tuesday.

The last news conference held by Ter-Petrosyan–which was attended by various media outlets dates back to 1992.

Ter-Petrosyan has not generally been accessible to the media.
