Community Activist Shirvanian Appointed to State License Board

SACRAMENTO–California Governor Pete Wilson announced Thursday that longtime Armenian activist and benefactor–Hacob Shirvanian had been appointed to serve on the California State License Board.

Shirvanian’s generosity to the Armenian-American community has long been recognized by community based organizations as well as the Armenian Church. In June of 1988–Shirvanian received the Cilician Knight Medal from Karekin II–then Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia. His contributions were reaffirmed last year by His Holiness Aram I–current Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia–who awarded Shirvanian with the Prince of Cilicia Medal.

Shirvanian has an impressive history of participation on state regulatory agencies. Prior to this appointment Shirvanian served on the California Waste Management Board–the California Small Business Board–which he chaired in 1983–as well as the Environmental Protection Agency Advisory Committee and the Los Angeles County Hazardous Waste Management Plan and Review Commission.

"The Board of Director of the Armenian National Committee of America–Western Region congratulates Hacob on his appointment to this prestigious Board," stated Armand Keosian–Chairman of the Board of the ANCA-WR–"Governor Pete Wilson clearly recognized Hacob’s distinguished service to our community and the State of California and wisely added Hacop to this important licensing board. The ANCA-WR is also certain that the Contractors State License Board will benefit greatly from Hacop’s experience and intelligence and in the process–the reputation of California Armenia’s will continue to be enhanced," concluded Keosian.
