YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In a statement issued by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Sept. 5–the presidential elections in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic were dismissed and called illegal.
An Armenpress correspondent addressed Alexander Bozhko–the Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia to comment upon the statement.
"A number of states–in particular the Russian Federation–the United States and others–made declarations concerning the presidential elections in Nagorno-Karabakh," Bozhko said–and the Ukraine too expressed its opinion on this issue.
Ukraine being interested in a quick settlement of the conflict proceeded from the stand point that the election could have negative influence on the peace process in the region.
As to the content of the statement–Ukraine once again confirmed its position–that it is to be solved by peaceful means. Any other way aimed at settling the conflict is futile.
Bozhko also noted that the Ukrainian Embassy in Armenia regards the efforts undertaken by the OSCE Minsk group to settle the conflict as optimistic.
