Mesrobian Renovated And Ready for 21st Century

MONTEBELLO–With more than $1 million in renovations Mesrobian Armenian School is beginning the 1997-98 school year better equipped than ever before.

Students and faculty will have a wealth of new resources available to them–including state-of-the-art computers with printers in every room–an educational video library–overhead televisions and VCRs–prismatic lighting in all classrooms and new student desks imported from Australia. Additionally–the main building has been remodeled to create an ergonomic learning environment.

In an effort to launch Mesrobian and its students into the 21st century–the computer lab has been equipped with 25 new PCs and educational internet access. The lab also has a diagnostic center for students to dismantle computers and gain hands-on experience on the inner workings of computers.

The campus also includes separate facilities for the pre-school–including a cafeteria–restrooms–computers with learning software for young children–and overhead televisions–and specially equipped playgrounds. An agricultural area has also been added for children to grow fuits and vegatables.

Among other additions "the Science Department will soon have a fully equipped and accredited lab for students to study biology–physics and chemistry," explained School Principal David Ghoogasian. "We are also very proud of our new Art Department which includes a complete ceramics section."

Funding for the renovation project was spearheaded by a newly formed Finance Committee. But Committee member Zaven Malkasian explains–"the completion of this project was made possible by the donations of many community members and the financial assistance of Holy Cross Church Board of Trustees."
