Pensioners Protest on Eve of Independence Day

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Consumers’ Union of Armenia and Union of "Constitutional Right" organized a rally at the Liberty Square of Yerevan in protest against the government because according to them it created intolerable social conditions for pensioners.

The pensioners told reporters about the problems of their lives: pensions are not paid in time–and when they are paid–they are not sufficient to cover minimal requiremen’s. The situation aggravated after the electricity tariffs rose and medical treatment became the responsibility of the hard-pressed patients.

Asked if such rallies can change the situation–participants said one action cannot change anything–but they should persistently struggle–organize rallies before the presidential residence–and according to them one such rally is organized for Wednesday.
