ARF Leaders Meet With Government Officials

YEREVAN (Yerevan News Agency)–Representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and Armenian government officials met Saturday–as part of an effort to establish dialogue between Armenia’s leadership and the suspended political party. Following the meeting a joint declaration was issued–the translated text of which is provided below:

Based on an agreement reached during a dialogue meeting in April 1997–between representatives of the president of the Republic of Armenia and officials of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau–a meeting took place on September 20–with the participation of Armenia’s National Assembly Speaker Babken Ararktsian–Foreign Minister Alexander Arzoumanian and government chief of staff and operations minister Shahen Karamanoukian–and Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau members Martun Matevosian and Massis Baghdassarian–as well as ARF Executive Council member Roland Sharoyan. Issues of mutual interest were discussed.

ARF Bureau member Martun Matevosian and Executive Council political representative Rouben Hakopian met Monday with Prime Minister Robert Kocharian.

The legal resumption of ARF activities in Armenia–Armenia’s internal political and economic situation–the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and Armenia-Diaspora Relations were among the issues discussed during the meeting.
