Ter Petrosyan Meets with CIS Collective Security Council Leader

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Levon Ter-Petrosyan met with Ambassador Zemsky–the Secretary General of the CIS Collective Security Council–currently on a working visit to Armenia.

The two said that processes of integration on different levels were currently underway both within the framework of the 12 states of the CIS integration group and within the framework of the Collective Security Agreement that involves nine CIS countries (the agreement was signed in Tashkent on May 15–1992).

It was also stressed that the agreement was important in setting about military and political cooperation between the countries.

The sides highlighted that the collective security system–now being created within the framework of the agreement–could and had to play a stabilizing role not only on a regional but on a global scale as well. Operated on United Nations and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe principles–the system may become an important part of future joint and comprehensive security systems of Europe and Asia.
