Defendants End Hunger Strike

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The defendants in the "Trial of 31" ended their hunger strike at Noubarashen prison Friday.

According to defendant Manvel Yeghiazarian’s attorney Gayaneh Andonian–the defendants chose to end the hunger strike at their own will in order to avoid any delays due to their own health reasons.

According to Andonian–members of Armenia’s prosecutor general’s office visited the defendants at their site of incarceration in connection with a statement relasted by the defendants declaring that if anything should happen to them while in captivity–their friends and family will demand an explanation and legal action from chief justice Davit Avedissian.

Yeghiazarian reportedly told the investigators that this statement was to attract attention to the fact that the defendants have been incarcerated for more than two years without having been convicted.

The defendants in the "Trial of 31" began a hunger strike at Noubarashen prison Monday.

The word of the hunger strike was reported to the press by defendant Manvel Yeghiazarian’s defense attorney Vova Hakhverdian.
