Armenia to Stand Up for Karabakh Rights Says Levon Zourabian

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"Armenia will agree to the settlement proposals which will be acceptable for both Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan," Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s spokesman Levon Zourabian said on Thursday.

Earlier Armenia repeatedly stated that it would agree to any option acceptable for Karabakh. That is why some journalists viewed that as a change in Armenia’s position regarding the Karabakh conflict settlement. In particular–journalists questioned Zourabian whether Armenia was turning into a country (independently of ethnic composition) which is interested in settlement of any conflict.

"How a settlement can be achieved if one of the parties does not agree to it–I don’t know?" Zourabian asked in his turn–adding that Armenia’s position has remained unchanged.

Zourabian explained that even in the resolution of the 1994 OSCE Summit in Budapest Karabakh and Azerbaijan were recognized as parties to the conflict–while Armenia was referred to as a third party.
