Yeltsin Supports Azeri Sovereignty

KISHINEV–October 23 (Itar-Tass) – Russian President Boris Yeltsin accentuated Moscow’s position on "united and indivisible Moldavia– Georgia and Azerbaijan," speaking about a settlement of problems in the Dnester area–Abkhazia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Addressing a news conference on the results of the Thursday summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States–Yeltsin noted that Russia favors–as before–preservation of united states.

"On the other hand–it is up to the leadership of a republic to decide what autonomy to grant to some or other part of an appropriate republic."

"But this should not be another state," Yeltsin noted.
