Hassanov Seeks CIS Condemnation of Armenian Russian Agreement

KISHNEV (Azg/Noyan Tapan)–Azeri Foreign Minister Hassan Hassanov demanded at the Wednesday session of the Commonwealth of Independent States Summit that the body condemn the Russia-Armenia Friendship and Collaboration agreement–saying it was a military treaty.

According to a report of Radio Liberty– Armenian Foreign Minister Alexander Arzoumanian protested–saying that no one has the right for such an evaluation of a bilateral agreement– signed by independent Armenia.

The scandal was settled only through the efforts of Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeni Primakov.

He said that this was another attempt to diminish Russia’s role in the negotiating process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
