“Human Rights 96″ Union Organized in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Twelve public organizations in Armenia have come together to form "Human Rights-96," a union which–according to its founders–will promote coordination of human rights activity in Armenia.

The constituent assembly elected Raphael Ghazarian Chairman of the union–and also appointed poetess Silva Kaputikian–actor Sos Sargssian–poet Razmik Davoyan–professor Ludmila Haroutiunian–opposition figures Shavarsh Kocharian and Grant Khachatrian and several others as members of the council.

The union also includes such groups as the "Supreme Council,"September-96 and Political Prisoners," and such organizations as "Women in the name of Democracy and Justice,"In the name of Stable Human Development,"Woman-Entrepreneur,"Hairenik,"Capital club," the "National Yezids Union," the "Russia Society," the "Consumers Union of Armenia," the "Society of Politologists of Armenia," and the "Revival Society."

Rouben Torossian–deputy chairman of the union–said the union would be registered at the Justice Ministry before the end of the year
