Karekin I Archbishop of Canterbury Sign Statement

ETCHMIADZIN (Noyan Tapan)–On his pontifical visit to the Diocese of England–His Holiness Karekin I–Catholicos of All Armenia’s–paid a visit to his alma mater–Oxford University’s Catrins College–where he obtained a portion of his theological education some 40 years ago.

Karekin I also visited Bodleian Library–where an exhibition of Armenian man’scripts was being held Saturday.

The Catholicos of All Armenia’s then visited Pussey House and Balliol College–one of the major theological centers of the University–where the administration of the University organized an official reception.

The same day Karekin I visited two theology colleges of the Anglican Church–St. Stephen’s House and Wycliffe Hall.

The following day His Holiness together with the Archbishop of Canterbury George Curry attended a ceremony–commemorating British soldiers killed in both world wars.

Catholicos Karekin I and Archbishop Curry signed a joint communiqu–Thursday–reported the Holy See press services.

His Holiness Karekin I–Catholicos of All Armenia’s–currently in England on an official visit–was conferred with the highest honor of the Anglican Church–the Lambert Cross Order.

The Order was handed over by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

In honor of Karekin I–an evening liturgy was served by Bishop Richard Chatrs at St. Paul’s Church in London. Karekin I had separate meetings with Archbishop Grigoros of the Greek Orthodox Church and Cardinal Bazil Khum of the Catholic Church. During a meeting with the Cardinal–His Holiness spoke of the Karabakh issue.
