Glendale–During a private reception for local Armenian community leaders sponsored by State Assemblyman Scott Wildman and held at the Brandview Collection in Glendale Nov. 12–Armenian National Committee of America- Western Region representatives spoke with the Speaker of the California State Assembly–Cruz Bustamante–on a number of issues of concern to the Armenian American community–including the Turkish Government’s attempt to establish an Ottoman Turkish History Chair at UCLA.
"I was pleased to learn that Speaker Bustamante was well aware of the proposed establishment of a Ottoman Turkish Chair at UCLA and the many problems associated with it," stated ANCA-WR Board Member Avo Donoyan. "The Speaker’s concerns regarding the threat the Turkish Government’s revisionist agenda poses–and his commitment to convey his concerns to the appropriate UCLA officials –is a clear indication that leading Americans are well aware of and opposed to Turkey’s self-serving attempt to distort world history through the manipulation of America’s educational institutions."
Also sharing their views with Speaker Bustamante and Assemblyman Wildman were Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian–Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church–Glendale City Council members Ginger Bremberg and David Weaver–and a host of prominent Armenian American business leaders.
