Foreign Ministry Prepares for Denmark OSCE Summit

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–In order to regulate preparations for the upcoming meeting of OSCE foreign ministries in Copenhagen–Armenia’s Foreign Ministry established a working group led by Vardan Oskanian–first deputy foreign minister of Armenia–Tuesday.

The group will concentrate on the resumption of negotiations on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict–which were halted 11 months ago.

As noted by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Arsen Gasparian at a press conference Monday–Armenia will stress the importance of direct talks between Karabakh and Azerbaijan. According to Gasparian–no turning point in the negotiations is possible without that.

Gasparian said the agenda of the Copenhagen meeting had not yet been approved–and that the issue of resuming talks may be reflected in the OSCE Minsk Group’s report.

According to him–it is not yet clear if the Karabakh issue will be discussed along with other regional conflicts.

Coming in the wake of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s shift of position–this OSCE Foreign Ministers Summit is deemed by experts as an important meeting.

Ter-Petrosyan stunned observers by announcing a sudden shift in Armenia’s official position on the conflict. Arkady Ghoukassian recently confirmed reports of discord between the two governmen’s.
