OSCE Co Chair Meeting Deemed Significant

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"I attach great importance to the meeting of the OSCE Minsk group co-chairmen’scheduled for February 4 in Paris," First Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian said in his Sunday interview with "Lraper" TV program.

He said that the co-chairmen "closely followed" the debates which were going on in Armenia and Karabakh–were well aware of the parties’ standpoints–and problems raised by Karabakh. "They clearly understood that there are differences and that today Karabakh is an integral and independent political unit–the problems of which require serious discussion," Oskanian said.

The Deputy Foreign Minister voiced hope that the co-chairmen would decide what steps to take to promote the resumption of negotiations and achieve tangible breakthrough within the process.

According to Oskanian–the present deadlock in the negotiations differs from previous ones as "today both co-chairmen and the conflicting parties are unwilling to resume the talks through artificial methods–but first want to eliminate serious impedimen’s and problems–hindering the negotiations."
