Kocharian to Announce Candidacy

YEREVAN (Reuters)–The field of candidates in Armenia’s presidential run grew more competitive Monday as Armenia’s Lraber television reproted that Prime Minister and Acting President Robert Kocharian would announce his candidacy Tuesday.

The government press service issued a statement late Monday announing "Robert Kocharian will take part in the election," the government press service said in a statement.

Apart from Kocharian–other candidates include Vazgen Manoukian–chairperson of the National Democratic Union and the front-runner in the 1996 presidential elections.

In a separate development–sources in Armenia also indicated that Armenian Revolutionary Federation leader Vahan Hovanessian would be released Tuesday–as well.
