Parliament Speaker Meets with Committee Chairmen Party Blocs

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Parliament Speaker Khosrov Harutiunian began his first day as Speaker–on Thursday–with a meeting with leaders of parliament standing committees and party blocs.

Harutiunian hoped that efforts would not be spared in initiating legislation–and promoting reform in the political–judicial and economic spheres. He particularly emphasized the initiation and adoption of a series of laws aimed at reforming the judicial-legal and electoral systems.

Harutiunian also held working meetings with Hovhannes Igitian–chairman of the committee on foreign relations–and Armen Yeghiazarian–chairman of the committee on financial-credit–budget and economic issues. They discussed issues regarding interparliamentary activities of the National Assembly–a series of agreemen’s up for ratification at the parliament and amendmen’s to bills regarding economic policy.

The same day–the Speaker held meetings with party blocs and expressed hope that they would continue their professional work. Haroutiunian stressed the importance of adopting a law on public servants which would provide legal status for specialists in the party blocs.
