“Sept. 25″ Trial” Defendant Released

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Supreme Court of Armenia continued to hear the seventh "Sept. 25 Trial" on Monday–despite the absence of the victims and witnesses. Defendant Armen Khachatrian is facing a charge of mass disturbance (count 74) in connection with events near the National Assembly building on September 25–1996.

Taking into account the poor health of the defendant–Prosecutor Yura Manoukian petitioned that he be released but be confined to city limits. The Judicial Board–chaired by Justice Souren Kostanian–approved the petition and Khachtrian was released.

The defendant is expected to testify on February 11.
