Prisoner’s Defense League Dissolves Itself

YEREVAN (Yerevan News Agency)–The Political Prisoners of Armenia Defense Committee issued an announcement Tuesday–in which it demanded the release of all Armenian political prisoners–but–most importantly announced its dissolution as an organization–given the recent political changes in Armenia.

Below is the English translated text.

Given the recent release of political prisoners Hrand Markarian and Vahan Hovanessian by the current leadership of the Republic of Armenia and counting on their willingness to address the legal and just appeals of all political prisoners;

Concluding that the recent liberation by the Armenian people of the overzealous dictatorship will provide the opportunity for establishing the rule of law in our country;

And–being convinced that politically motivated persecutions–incarcerations and abuses will no longer be tolerated in Armenia and have become a thing of the past;

The Political Prisoners’ Defense Council of Armenia hereby dissolves itself;

The Council also calls on Armenia’s prosecutor general to review the cases of all prisoners and restore those entities’ due process and rights.
