Kocharian Petrossian Address Gathering in Stepanakert

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–"Today is a celebration for all Armenian people–as it marks the day the Karabakh movement lay a foundation for revival of the national spirit and the establishment of Armenian statehood," Acting President and Prime Minister of Armenia Robert Kocharian said in his congratulatory address to the people of Karabakh.

The address by Robert Kocharian was made public at a solemn gathering dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the national-liberation struggle of Karabakh held Thursday in Stepanakert. In his address–Kocharian voiced confidence that Armenia as well as the Diaspora have always supported Karabakh and victory is the result of the unity of the entire Armenian nation.

In his speech–Karabakh Prime Minister Leonard Petrossian defined the historical significance of the Karabakh movement and spiritual rebirth of the nation.

He stressed the need for standing army–an office of president–as well as Karabakh’s foreign policies on peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict. He stressed that both the international community and the enemy must clearly realize that the decision by the people of Karabakh to achieve independence is solid.

Armenia’s Defense Minister Vazgen Sargssian also spoke of the undeniable victory of the Karabakh people. He noted–however–that victory in stabilizing social and economic factors can only be achieved through combined efforts.

The delegation from Armenia participating in the tenth anniversary celebrations includes Constitutional Court Chairman Gagik Harutiunian–Interior and National Security Minister Serge Sargssian–Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin I–and other officials.

On behalf of the Russian delegation Yuri Chernichenko congratulated the participants of the gathering.

A large contingent of ARF leaders from the Diaspora has traveled to Karabakh to take part in the festivities.

The delegation also attended similar celebrations in Armenia and met with Kocharian last week.
