Aram I Congratulates Kofi Anan

ANTELIAS–His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia sent a letter to United Nations Secretary General Kofi Anan–congratulating him on his recent diplomatic mission to Baghdad following which the threat of war was averted.

Aram I–writing in his capacity as chairperson of the World Council of Churches–praised Anan for his diplomatic prowess and "courageous stance" toward world peace.

Before arriving in Baghdad–Anan stopped in Iran where he visited the Holy Saviour Armenian Monastery in New Julfa–Isfahan.

He was welcomed and greeted by the Prelate of the Central Iran prelacy Archbishop Goriun Babian who performed the traditional blessing of the salt and water ceremony upon the UN leader’s arrival.

A large group of community members also greeted Anan as he toured the monastery and met with Archbishop Babaian.
