National Assembly Votes Against Election Law Amendment

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The National Assembly refused Monday to put on the agenda for its seventh session the issue of amending the presidential election law proposed by the government and parliament members Baruyr Hairikian and Nerses Zeinalvandian. The proposal suggests assigning local observers.

National Assembly member Vardan Khachatrian–who had urged the deputies to vote against the proposal–found that similar amendmen’s might bring about confusion and lead to a distressing situation–especially being so close to the election.
