Hovannisian Appointed Armenian Information Chief

YEREVAN–Robert Kocharian–Acting President and Prime Minister of Armenia–appointed Raffi Hovannisian–38–to the post of Chief of Armenia’s Information and Publications Department–Thursday at a press conference in Yerevan.

Hovannisian–who was born in 1959 in Fresno–California–graduated from the University of California–Berkeley–with a degree in Political Science–and from UCLA with degrees in History and Near-Eastern Studies.

In 1982–Hovannisian received his master’s degree from Tufts College in International Law and Strategic Studies from the Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy–and in 1985–received his juris doctorate from Georgetown University.

Hovannisian taught Armenian History at Tufts College between 1981 and 1982–and worked in and around Los Angeles in various law firms between 1985 and 1989–when he founded the Armenian Bar Association.

In 1993–he founded the Armenian Center for National and International Studies–and also served as Foreign Minister from 1991-1992.
