CEC Condemns Ararat Incident

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A statement issued by the Central Electoral Commission Monday said :"The Central Electoral Commission condemns the act of violence committed against the campaign members of presidential candidate Vazgen Manoukian in the town of Ararat on March 8 and deman’s that law enforcement agencies punish those responsible and ensure a natural course of the election campaign under the law".

CEC Chairman Khachatur Bezirjan said he had personally asked Prosecutor General Henrik Khachatrian to ensure the participation of a representative of the Prosecutor’s Office in CEC meetings. A special investigation is underway–said Bezirjian. The Prosecutor General assured that he will soon make public the results of the investigation.

On behalf of the victims of the incident–CEC and National Democratic Union member Vova Hakhverdian thanked the Prosecutor’s Office for its prompt action and the staff of Yerevan’s Nor Nork Hospital for their immediate care.
