Fresno Benefactor Sarkis Boghosian Laid to Rest

FRESNO–Benefactor Sarkis Boghosian was laid to rest Saturday–March 7–at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Fresno–as some 300 mourners were on hand to bid final respects to one of the most influential and generous champions of the Armenian cause.

In attendance at the ceremony were ARF Bureau member Apo Boghigian; ARF Western US Central Committee chairperson Dr. Viken Hovsepian–and member Viken Yepremian; Prelacy Executive Council representative Richard Darmanian; ARS Central Executive representatives Mako Mgrdichian and Haighoush Kohler; ARS Western US Regional Executive representative Anahit Meymarian; and members of the ARF "Soghomon Tehlirian" Gomideh.

Boghosian passed away Saturday–Feb. 28–in Fresno. Saturday’s funeral proceedings were conducted by Prelate Moughegh Mardirossian–with the assistance of Parish Priest Babken Charian of San Francisco’s St. Gregory the Illuminator Church–Parish Priest Vahan Gosdanian of Holy Trinity Church–along with former Parish Priest Hrant Srapian.

The Homenetmen Fresno Chapter–led by Harout Madenlian–along with members from the AYF "Kevork Chavoush" Chapter–also attended.

Following the ceremony–Father Gosdanian read Boghossian’s biography–and spoke of the deceased.

"Sarkis Boghossian became rich–and enriched–all with great passion. With friendship he became rich–and enriched. Through God he became rich–and enriched. He gave of himself without any hesitation. His memory will last forever."

Kostanian read several chapters from the Bible–after which–those in attendance were invited to the "Massis-Ararat" Cemetery where Boghossian was buried.

Boghigian spoke at Boghossian’s gravesite–offering his final words on behalf of the ARF–before draping the tri-colors of the Armenian flag over his coffin. As Boghossian’s coffin was lowered into the ground–mourners sang "Verkerov Li" and "Menk Angeghts Zinvor Enk."

Representatives from every organization in attendance spoke at a memorial luncheon following the burial at the church hall.

Following the internment ceremony–the flag was folded by the Homenetmen’scouts and presented to Boghossian’s long-time caretaker Diruhi Kupelian–who was commended for her years of service to the benefactor.
