In a statement released on March 22–the 83rd Anniversary of the Genocide Commemoration Committee called on all Armenia’s to gather at the memorial monument on April 24 in Montebello to honor the victims and survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide orchestrated by the Ottoman Turks.
The statement praised the Armenian nation for unity displayed during the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the liberation struggle of Karabakh–and urged all members of the Armenian community to make that unity a permanent aspect of its life. It also acknowledged that unity as an inspiration to strive with more motivation toward resolving the Armenian Cause.
In its statement–the Commemoration Committee declared April 24 as Armenian Martyrs Day–a day of rebirth for living and surviving Armenia’s who demand recognition and reparation from Turkey and the international community.
In conclusion–the Commemoration Committee urged that April 24 be a day of demand for justice as much as it will be a day of remembrance.
