Karabakh a Subject for Speculations

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–Members of the Writers’ Union–the "Munk" intellectual club–the Journalists’ Union of Karabakh and the teaching staff of Karabakh State University issued a statement Tuesday appealing to the politicians of Armenia never to give up the national interest in exchange for immediate political profits.

Here are excerpts of the statement:

"Some Armenian and Russian media have been publishing material lately based on conjectures and groundless conclusions aimed at disrupting the image of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and devaluating the gains of its long-standing national liberation struggle.

"The aspirations of orderers of that kind of press are quite obvious–since all of the publications are directly connected with the presidential election in Armenia.

"In seeking power they never hesitate to resort to dirty methods in their political rivalry–naively thinking that they can purify themselves by casting aspersions on others. They have turned Karabakh into a subject for speculations–a means of seeking power."]
