Aram I Calls for Revamping of Armenia Fund

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia Wednesday called for a reorganization of the Armenia Fund during a telephone conversation with the fund’s executive director Raffi Hovannisian.

The Catholicos pledged his and the Cilician See’s continued support for Armenia Fund activities–but maintained that the fund’s structure and modus operandi must be revamped to better serve the goals of the organization.

Hovannisian contacted Aram I to discuss fund activities and to garner blessing of the Catholicos–who has welcomed Hovannisian’s appointment to the position.

Also on Wednesday–the Catholicos received a telephone call from the Prime Minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Leonard Petrossian–who thanked the pontiff for the hospitality he received during his recent visit to Lebanon.

Petrossian stressed the importance of the organized and active communities of Lebanon and Syria and emphasized the important role they play in the Armenian reality.

The Catholicos pledged $100,000 for the construction of a new cathedral in Stepanakert–during Petrossian’s visit. The Karabakh prime minister was accompanied by the Primate of the Karabakh Diocese Bishop Barkev Mardirossian.
