French Sponsor Science Programs

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Under the French-Armenian agreement "On Friendship and Cooperation" signed in 1993–the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France has already allocated 20 million fran’s to develop scientific and technical cooperation–the French Embassy’s Science Attach Romen Amasovic reported.

He said that the program still in progress is above all aimed at sponsoring the training of Armenian students and postgraduate students in France–as well as research conducted by Armenian scientists.

Amasovic pointed out that in the realm of scientific cooperation between the two countries–the most significant programs are astrophysics and seismology programs being implemented by Armenian scientists jointly with the National Center for Scientific Researches of France.

These programs–which were launched in 1995–provide for an exchange of specialists and supply of equipment. Thus–the French will supply the Byurakan Astrophysical Laboratory with a large number of equipment units.

The seismology program provides for an exchange of geological students. The Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia–the Center of Seismology and the faculty of geology at Yerevan State University are assisting in this NCSR program.
