ARF Praises Kocharian Decision to Lift Ban

YEREVAN (Yerevan News Agency)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Executive Council of Armenia issued an announcement Friday praising Armenian President Robert Kocharian’s recent decree by which the three-year-old ban on party activities was lifted.

Below is the English translation of the announcement:

The decree issued on May 1 by Robert Kocharian–president of the Republic of Armenia declared null and void a prior decision forbidding the entry into Armenia of ARF leader Hrair Maroukhian. [Similarly] through a decree issued on May 6 the ban on ARF activities–instituted by a presidential decree on Dec. 28–1994–was also declared null and void. As it became evident–certain realities in Armenia–and the leadership’s persecution against the ARF were aimed at neutralizing the national-socialist party–for which end illegal and controversial trials were staged.

The ARF Executive Council of Armenia–with satisfaction–announces that President Robert Kocharian’s decisions ending the persecution of the ARF–are proof that the Armenian leadership–namely its president Robert Kocharian–have chosen democracy–rule of law and the preservation of national interests as a means to advance the Republic of Armenia. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation is prepared–with all its abilities–to assist the leadership in safeguarding those goals.
