YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The remains of national heroine Sosse Mayrig–wife of freedom fighter Aghpuir Serop–arrived in Yerevan on Wednesday. An interment ceremony will be held at the Fallen Heroes Cemetery at Yerablour–on May 28–to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia.

Her remains were delivered from Egypt where the heroine was buried in 1953.

During a solemn ceremony on May 3 headed by Armenia’s Ambassador to Egypt Edward Nalbandian–the body was dug out from its resting place at the Armenian Cemetery in Alexandria to be moved to Armenia.

The ceremony was sponsored by the Armenian Relief Society and the Armenian Relief Cross of Egypt and was attended by numerous representatives of Armenian organizations and community members from both Alexandria and Cairo.

Sosse–who fought alongside her husband–survived the Genocide and found her way to Alexandria–Egypt where she spent the last years of her life.
