Oskanian Meets with Israeli Ambassador

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian received new Israeli Ambassador to Armenia Ehud Moshe Eidam–whose office is in Tbilisi–Tuesday. The Israeli diplomat presented copies of his credentials. "As a new ambassador–I promise to do everything to promote the friendship between the peoples of Armenia and Israel," Eidam–said

The sides reportedly discussed Armenia-Israel relations–prospects and possibilities of expanding economic ties. They stressed the importance of creating appropriate legal underpinnings for boosting cooperation–especially in science–industry and culture. Eidam also pointed out that the two nations have ancient historical links and a common fate with large diasporas.

The Israeli diplomat briefed Oskanian on the current state of the Middle East peace process and Israel’s position on various related issues.

Oskanian voiced the same opinion in his speech of congratulation addressed to the Israeli people.

The two thanked the Jewish community of Armenia for organizing the meeting and the exhibition presenting works of Jewish and Armenian painters in which the links between the Jewish and Armenian peoples are reflected. The exhibition had organized with the assistance of the National Picture Gallery of Armenia–Israel’s Embassy in Georgia and Armenia–the Jewish community of Armenia–as well as the Ministry of Culture–Youth Affairs and Sports of Armenia.

Among those attending the meeting were foreign diplomats working in Armenia–government and parliament representatives–as well as representatives of national communities–cultural workers–scientists–and other officials.

Before his new appointment–Eidam worked in Helsinki–Finland–and also had been Israel’s charge d’affaires in Ukraine–Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
