Prosecutor General Issues Warrant Against Ter Petrosyan Bodyguard

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–At a Wednesday press conference–Prosecutor General Henrik Khachatrian reported that a warrant for the arrest of former presidential security guard Romik Ghazarian has been issued–however Ghazarian has fled to Moscow.

He also added that Artists Union Chairman Boghos Haytayan has not been arrested–but he has paid $20,000 in fines.

Khachatrian also made public recent developmen’s in numerous crimes of murder and attempted murder. He reported that significant developmen’s were made in the murders of Armenian Railways director Hambartsum Ghandilian–his driver and passenger General Zhora Issahakian.

"Today–we are very close to solving the murder of former Yerevan Mayor Hambartsum Galstyan," said Khachatrian. He said that warran’s for the arrest of two suspects have already been issued. Khachatrian refrained from naming those suspects in order not to jeopardize the investigation. He mentioned–however–that one suspect was no longer in Armenia.

Khachatrian also reported that the Prosecutor General’s Office has paid special attention to the investigation of the murder of former KGB Chief Marius Yuzpashian and promised to report any developmen’s in that case. Khachatrian anticipated that in his next press conference he would be able to report on development in the investigation of the murder of renowned writer Vartkes Bedrossian. Khachatrian refuted former Interior Minister Vano Siradeghian’s statement alleging that Bedrossian’s investigation was help up because of the release of his wife. Khachatrian deemed her arrest unwarranted.

The Prosecutor General highlighted developmen’s in the investigation of the attempted murder of Supreme Court Review Board Chairman Vladimir Krikorian. He reported that originally main suspects were left out of the investigation–and only two were convicted and that with lesser charges.

Khachatrian also noted that investigation is in process for nine incidents during the presidential elections–three of which have already gone to court–with one verdict. He also mentioned that the Chief Supreme Court Justice is unsatisfied with juridical reforms and opposes to dual citizenship. He said that Ararat Zourabian’s relations with Aghvan Vartanian are under investigation.

He said that details of wrongdoing at the Armavir army base will soon be revealed.

Khachatrian concluded that the courts have been performing in a satisfactory manner.
