May 28 Battles to be Reenacted for 80th Anniversary

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan–Armenpress)–Armenia’s defense ministry announced Thursday that the victorious battles of Sardarabad–Bashabaran and Gharakilisseh–which resulted in the 1918 declaration of independence–would be reenacted as part of Armenia’s state celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.

Reenactment of other historic independence battles in Javakhk–Aparan and Vanadzor are also being planned. The preparation for this event will be lead by Major-General Sergey Martirossian.

A military parade with the participation of the Armenian National Army and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Defense Army is scheduled to take place at the Sardarabad monument–while more than 2,500 actors and members of the artistic community will be on hand to reenact the battle to victory.

Special visits to the tombs of Aram Manoukian are scheduled–as are the reburial of Generals Andranik and Dro and Armenian heroine Sosse Mayrig.

General Dro’s son Martik-Martiros and the general’s gran’son Dro have already arrived in Armenia for the ceremonies.

Russian Ambassador to Armenia and Russian border patrol units stationed in Armenia will pay homage to the battle of Sardarabad Martyrs during a special ceremony.

Some 4,400 Armenia’s over the age of 90 and some 270 Armenia’s over the age of 100–most of whom took part in the 1918 independence movement will be honored at the national celebration.
