Bash Abaran Anniversary Marked

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–As a prelude to national celebrations scheduled to mark the 80th anniversary establishment of the Republic of Armenia–a festive celebration was held Monday marking the 80th anniversary of the battle of Bash-Abaran.

The ceremony was attended by Armenia’s prime minister Armen Darbinian–defense minister Vazgen Sargsyan and numerous other officials and guests.

A solemn requiem service for those who gave their lives on the road to independence was held–following which a museum dedicated to the battle was inaugurated.

Present at the ceremony were Kourken and Mardiros Ganayan–the sons of General Dro–the leader of the Bash-Abaran battle. Also present were 40 other Ganayan family members who have gathered in Armenia on the invitation of musician Jirair Ganayan and through the assistance of Armenia’s defense ministry.
