YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The International Atomic Energy Agency has begun implementation of a project which assesses the safety of Armenian NPP’s operation. The project aims at assisting the "Haypetatom" (the regulatory body in the atomic energy sphere in Armenia) in the Armenian NPP’s operational safety assessment and control.
The project will offer the full range of safety advisory services–develop guidelines on operational safety assessment–assist Armenia to achieve the international standards necessary for carrying out the Armenian NPP’s operational safety self-assessment–train personnel–and hold workshops on tools and techniques for operational safety assessment.
The project is also being implemented in ten CIS countries as well as in Russia–Ukraine–Lithuania–Bulgaria–Croatia–Hungary and other countries. The project costs $380,000.
