Naghdalian Appointed TV Chief

YEREVAN (Armenpress–RFE/RL)–A former Yerevan correspondent for the Los Angeles-based Horizon Armenian television and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Armenian Service was appointed head of the Armenian state television Tuesday–pledging to carry out reforms and ensure its independence from the government.

A government-appointed board of trustees named 32-year-old Tigran Naghdalian as the new executive director of the Armenian National Television.

Naghdalian told RFE/RL Tuesday that his chief tasks will be accelerating the impending adoption of laws "clarifying" the status of state TV and revamping the largest Armenian media organization.

He said first positive results will already be visible within a month. National TV was transformed last year into a "joint-stock state company" with the stated aim of boosting its efficiency and independence.
