Oskanian Recognizes Diasporan Support

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian visited the United States recently where he met with representatives of a number of Armenian and American companies. He arrived in Washington from Yalta where he attended the summit of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

At a reception organized by the Armenian Assembly of America to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Internship Program of the Assembly–the Armenian foreign minister commented on the transformation of the BSEC into an organization. "It once again provided for me an occasion to think of the importance of Armenia’s independence." However–he said–we must never regard this independence as a guaranteed reality. Oskanian underlined that Armenia can retain its independence only due to its relations with the Diaspora on the road to becoming a powerful and economically strong country.

Commenting on the Karabakh issue–Oskanian pointed out that the Armenian administration does not agree with critics who say it is pursuing a tough policy–rather it feels quite the opposite.
