Election Held for Executive Council in Iraq

Elections for the Prelacy Executive Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Iraq were held on May 22. These elections are held every four years in accordance with state laws and under the observation of state monitors.

The Executive Council is elected by Armenian-Iraqi residents who are at least 21 years of age.

Of the 4001 registered voters–3036 participated in the election of the 18 candidates.

One of the two lists of names comprised of a group of candidates from the Armenian General Benevolent Union–while the second list included new names submitted by the former Executive Council.

As a result of the vote–all the candidates from the second list were elected as the new Executive Council: Vahak Mesrobian–Alex Boghosian–Vehouni Minasian–Nerses Ardzivian–Baruir Hagopian–Boghos Mihranian–and Haigaz Sarkissian.
