Parliament Speaker Praises BSEC Work

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Khosrov Haroutiunian addressed the 11th plenary session of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly held in Bucharest on Wednesday.

Congratulating those present upon the fifth anniversary of the BSEC–Haroutiunian stressed that major work had been achieved toward the development of relations among the participating states in the economic–scientific and technical as well as educational spheres since the signing of the Declaration on the Establishment of the Parliamentary Assembly.

Haroutiunian described the signing of the Charter transforming the BSEC into a regional economic organization in Yalta as a remarkable event–emphasizing that the Charter is aimed at turning the Black Sea region into a zone of stable and lasting peace–friendship and prosperity.

The speaker of the Armenian parliament referred to the need for coordinated action in the process of integration of transport networks and energy systems–in protecting the Black Sea environment–dealing with organized crime and creating a free trade zone. Haroutiunian expressed confidence that the mutually advantageous economic cooperation among Black Sea countries would help further normalize the political atmosphere in the region.
