MECC Faith and Unity Meet in Lebanon

BIKFAYA–Lebanon–The Middle East Council of Churches’ Faith and Unity annual Representatives Assembly was held June 25-26–in Bikfaya–Lebanon. Delegates represented the four religious orders of the Council–Eastern Orthodox Chalcedonian–Eastern Orthodox Non-Chalcedonian–Catholic and Protestant Churches. The Holy See of Cilicia was represented by permanent representative to the Council of Churches Bishop Sebouh Sarkissian.

The first day of the meeting was devoted to religious research with four presentations being made on the topic of "The Existence of the Church. Its Being and Mission."

The second day of the meeting was devoted to evaluation of the quadrasectioned annual report presented by Faith and Unity Chairman Bishop Paul Sayiah. One part of the report acknowledged two conferences on the relations between the old and new covenants and the church’s existence–its being and mission. Another part of the report reviewed the work of religious figures in Egypt–Jordan and Lebanon. Additionally–a weekly prayer for the purpose of church unity was discussed.

It was decided that the Virgin Mother would be topic of discussion at the next general meeting.
