Darbinian Meets with French Senate Delegation

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s Prime Minister Armen Darbinian Tuesday met with delegation of visiting French senators–headed by the French-Armenian Friendship Caucus.

The prime minister’s press service reported that representatives of major French financial companies were also part of the French delegation.

In discussing the recently adopted Genocide resolution by the French National Assembly (lower house of parliament)–Darbinian stated that the French legislation should become a signal for the entire world to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Darbinian also praised the work of the French-Armenian Friendship Caucus–stressing the important role the group had played during a time when Armenia was in severe socio-economic crises.

The prime minister told his French visitors that any visit from a French delegation always benefited Armenia’social–economic and cultural well being.

In addressing the French entrepreneurs in the delegation–Darbinian discussed the ongoing economic reforms taking place in Armenia and urged the French to take a more active role in realizing those reforms–as well as Armenia’s plans for privatization.

The French delegation leader stated that aim of its visit was to strengthen ties between the parliamen’s of both countries–and promote stronger economic ties between Armenia and France.

The French delegation emphasized the importance of improving the economic climate in Armenia for future foreign investment.

The meeting–which was also attended by France’s Ambassador to Armenia Michel Legras and Armenia’s representative to France Christine Ter-Stepanian–focused on France’s role in various spheres of Armenian economy–specifically in the energy–banking and irrigation realms.
