Political Council Discusses Northern Transcaucasus

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The situation in the Northern Caucasus was discussed during Tuesday’s special meeting of the Public Council on Foreign Policy chaired by presidential advisor for international affairs Aram Sargssian. It was said during the meeting that the Northern Caucasus and the Transcaucasus is a single geopolitical system and–therefore–all processes taking place in the Northern Caucasus are of great importance to Armenia.

Commenting on the idea of establishing a Common Caucasian Home–members of the Public Council expressed the opinion that the goal of the given idea–which comes from the West–is to exclude Russia from the region–which is not in the interest of Armenia.

After discussing the policies of the states that take interest in the region the meeting decided to prepare some foreign policy guidelines for the country’s leadership to follow.
