New Professional Dance Group to be Formed in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"Armenian folk dances need new interpretations to be interesting to foreign audiences. Such interpretations will be made by a dance group being set up in Armenia to consist of professional musicians and dancers," the director of the group now being formed and head of the Department of Art of the American "Group Quest" industrial company–Abo Ashchian–told Noyan Tapan.

"Group Quest" has already announced a contest for Armenian composers and musicians. The winners will be included in the group and granted monetary awards. A similar contest for dancers is scheduled for early next month to choose about seventy dancers for the group.

It will take some two years to achieve a highly professional dance group. "Group Quest" is now being supported by American patrons of art and relies on their future support as well.

It should be said that Ashchian was the founder of the "Sayat-Nova" dance ensemble in Boston–Massachusetts–in 1986.
