German President Thanks Kocharian to Return of Valuables

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Roman Hertzog of Germany in his letter addressed to Armenian President Robert Kocharian expressed his gratitude for returning the cultural valuables that were taken away from Germany during World War II and kept in Armenia.

"I am expressing my sincere gratitude to you for your decision to return the valuable books and man’scripts that were taken to Yerevan during World War II," the letter stated.

"It is impossible to estimate the significance of these cultural values in terms of figures.

"The restitution of the books and man’scripts and the signing of the hand-over protocol was a step characteristic of friends and strengthening the mutual sympathy between our countries. Additionally–you set an example of solving the issue of restituting cultural valuables taken out as a result of war–proving your commitment to international law and signed agreemen’s.

"The position of your country will serve the further development and deepening of German-Armenian relations," it concluded.
