Helsinki 92 Committee Coordinator Denies Reports

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–In an interview with Noyan Tapan the coordinator of the Nagorno-Karabakh "Helsinki Initiative-92" Committee–Karen Ohanjanian–denied reports recently appearing in the Armenian press that he allegedly left Nagorno-Karabakh and the organization’s headquarters have now been taken over by the "Jupiter" firm.

Ohanjanian said that his three-month absence was conditioned by his academic work in Britain–as well as participation in the summit of Citizens of the Planet in Birmingham–the summit of Citizens of Europe in London–and two international conferences in Boston on problems of the Caspian region–and the 10th anniversary of the Karabakh movement and other forums on human rights–the development of democracy and the creation of a network of non-governmental organizations of Europe.

Ohanjanian explained that "it [the Helsinki-92 Committee] is still at the disposal of his organization–and the "Jupiter" firm–which once rendered assistance in equipping the office–now occupies only part of the building and helps our non-governmental organization". According to Ohanjanian–this firm has plans to build an office for NGOs operating in Karabakh in the future.
