YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The Holy Savior Church (Ghazanchetsots) in Shushi was one of the front line warriors during the war–moreover–one of the commanders," prominent writer and publicist–Zori Balayan–described the church in his interview with Noyan Tapan Sunday during the opening ceremony of the church.
According to him–the victory would have been impossible to gain without the spiritual support of this church. "The restoration of the church is the victory of the spiritual life of the Armenian people. For me it’s a realized dream," stressed Balayan.
"Each of us may have his own ideology–his own standpoint. However–we should realize that there is a national approach–which is above our personalities–our individual way of thinking–and it is this idea that we ought to think of today and realize," Raffi Hovannisian–executive director of the All Armenia Fund "Hayastan" said during the opening ceremony.
According to Hovannisian–the renovation of the church in Shushi symbolizes the revival of the Armenian people. "In spite of the heritage–the history and its black pages our people managed to find enough will–discipline and foresight and to rebuild today. This day was won at the cost of big losses; thousands of sons of the Armenian people gave up their lives for our nation to live in peace–with a prospect for stability and better life," said Hovannisian.
