YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Parties will be represented by their chairpersons in the presidential Political Council–presidential advisor and chairman of the Democratic Party of Armenia Aram Sargssian told Noyan Tapan–adding that he had reason to believe that the Communist Party of Armenia and the National Democratic Union refused to participate in the Political Council.
Sargssian described as unclear the statemen’s made by some organizations that one cannot participate in the Political Council as its establishment was proposed by parties supporting the president and the council will be a presidential stronghold. According to him–parties which express such doubts–on the contrary–should be more interested in participating in the Political Council so as to prevent it from becoming what they fear it to be.
Stressing the importance of the Political Council–Sargssian said it would provide parties with the opportunity to confront the president about his mistakes and domestic problems–and–"why not–control the authorities."
The presidential advisor said that the date of the first meeting of the Political Council would be decided this week.
