St. Martyr’s Church to be Built in Aghavno

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A St. Martyrs church will be built in the village of Aghavno in the Lachin (Kashatagh) region–upon the initiative of the Self-Determination Union–to immortalize the martyrs of the Armenian nation. Fundraisers for the construction of the church are already underway.

The ceremony of sanctification of the church foundation took place in the village on July 29. Relatives of 23 freedom fighters who perished near the village of Khochaz on July 29-30–1992–had come from Yerevan to attend the ceremony and the memorial service.

A Noyan Tapan reporter had the opportunity to visit other villages in the regions of Khochaz and Tsitsernakavank. In all above-mentioned villages homes are being reconstructed and lands cultivated. There are mainly young families in the villages. The populated areas are provided with electricity–and there are also schools in the villages.

Villages are far from each other and especially from Kashatagh.

The state of roads connecting the villages are in poor condition. Villagers are hopeful that roads will eventually be repaired and the problem of drinking water will be resolved.

The reconstruction of rural churches in Tsitsernakavank–as well as the Holy Advent Church in the village of Khochaz destroyed by Azeris has also been scheduled.
